The story
In Tom’s words
I grew up around building. My dad ran a small joinery workshop, so from a young age I was in the shed after school, sweeping up and slowly being trusted with more.
I left school and went straight into an apprenticeship. It was not a glamorous start, but it taught me how a site actually runs and how much the small decisions matter.
By my second year I was running a small crew. Not because I was the best builder on site, but because I planned ahead and people knew what they were doing each morning.
I learnt quickly because I had to.
I then moved to a company building high-end architectural homes. I wanted to be around people who were better than me and to learn how the top end of the industry worked.
For the first time I was surrounded by builders with decades of experience. They taught me precision, patience, and that the last five percent of a job is where reputations are made.
I went on to complete my qualification, gain my licence, and run a series of large projects for that company from start to finish. Those years shaped how Ridgeline works today.
What I love most about this industry is the people side of it.
I enjoy working closely with clients and tailoring each project to the way they live. No two families are the same, so no two homes should be built the same way either.
I also like bringing ideas to the table. There is almost always a smarter, more practical or more cost-effective way to solve a detail, and I want to find it with you.
One project I am especially proud of is a barn conversion overlooking the valley. We turned a cold storage shed into a warm four-bedroom family home with real character.
Outside of work, life is pretty simple. My partner Anna and I have two young kids, and most weekends are spent outdoors, at the beach or in the hills.
At Ridgeline Builders we bring that same grounded approach to every project. Good communication, high standards, creative thinking, and homes that feel personal to the people living in them.

Honesty
Honesty builds trust long before the home is finished. That means being upfront with clients, communicating clearly, owning mistakes quickly, and having honest conversations even when they’re uncomfortable. We expect the same from our team: people who genuinely care about doing the right thing and putting in their best effort every day.
Pride
We treat every project like it’s our own home. Shortcuts, rushed work and “that’ll do” attitudes don’t belong at Ridgeline Builders. We hold ourselves to a high standard because clients live with the finished result long after we leave the site. The small details matter, and we take pride in getting them right.
Communication
Building shouldn’t leave you guessing. We keep communication open from start to finish, so you always know what’s happening, what decisions need to be made, and where the project is sitting. No disappearing acts. No surprises halfway through the build.
Effort
Effort is non-negotiable in our company. Everyone on site genuinely cares about the outcome of the project and brings their best every day. Clients can feel the difference between builders who are just trying to get paid and builders who actually care about the final result. That extra effort shows up in every stage of the build.
A fixed crew
The same small team runs the job from design development through to completion, with one point of contact the whole way.
Weekly walkthroughs
A tidy site and a walkthrough every week, with photos every Friday if you’re out of town.
Finished like it’s ours
Handover with nothing left on the list, and we’re ten minutes away if you ever need us after.
The team
We intentionally keep our team small and selective. It lets us stay hands-on, keep a close eye on quality, and give every project the attention it deserves.
We work well together, back each other on site, and hold the same standard on every job. That culture is something clients feel from the first week of a build.

Director
Tom completed his apprenticeship, gained his licence, and ran a series of high-end architectural projects before founding Ridgeline Builders. He runs every job from the site and is the one point of contact for clients from the first meeting to handover.
Anna
Operations Manager
As Operations Manager, Anna keeps the company running smoothly. She looks after scheduling, budgets, supplier relationships and the paperwork behind every project, so the crew can focus on the build.
Mike
Foreman
Mike brings nearly 20 years of high-end building experience to the team and plays a big part in maintaining the standard we expect on site. Calm under pressure and thorough with the detail.
Josh
Qualified Builder
Josh comes from a design background, which gives him a different perspective on site. He is always thinking about how a detail could be improved, both visually and practically.
Ben
Apprentice
One of the fastest-learning and hardest-working apprentices we have worked with. Ben asks the right questions, takes pride in his work, and clients notice his attitude on site.
Liam
Apprentice
Liam is a second-year apprentice with a great attitude and a strong work ethic. The same discipline he brings to sport shows up on site every day, and he is soaking up everything he can.
Preferred partners
We work with a close circle of trusted subcontractors, suppliers and designers who have been part of our journey for years. From earthworks through to roofing, we intentionally keep the same reliable people around every project, because consistency matters. Many of them have worked side by side with us for over seven years, building relationships based on trust, communication and shared standards.
Every contractor on an Ridgeline Builders project understands the level we expect. Because our teams know each other so well, everyone can focus on doing their job properly, without unnecessary hold-ups or confusion.
We don’t choose subcontractors based on who’s cheapest this week. We choose people we trust in clients’ homes. People who care about the finished result as much as we do. Over time, these long-standing relationships have become one of the biggest strengths of Ridgeline Builders.
